SEA CADET SUMMER TRAINING
The Sea Cadet Summer Training Centre (CSTC) Program consists of courses conducted at various locations during the months of July and August.
Similar to the Corps Program, the CSTC Program will begin rollout of updated Sea CSTC courses in July 2009 and will deliver updated or new courses each successive year over the next five years.

The current CSTC program will be phased out as the updated CSTC Program is phased in.
The CSTC Program focuses on instruction opportunities to develop advanced knowledge and skills in specialized activities and to develop instructors/leaders for these specialized activities.

In the updated CSTC program, Sea Cadets will normally progress through increasingly longer courses. For example, a 2-week course, then a 3-week course, and then a 6-week or longer courses.
CSTC are each designated as an English Language Unit (ELU) or French Language Unit (FLU). Unless otherwise identified, courses are to be conducted and services provided in the language corresponding to the CSTC designation only.
>To be eligible to attend a summer training course, a cadet must:
- have attended a minimum 75 percent of local training during the current training year
- be free of any physical or mental ailment or injury that would prevent him/her from completing the course
- have (at minimum) functional ability in the language of the course
- meet all specific course prerequisites listed below
A cadet’s language ability level is deemed to be functional when he/she:
- can understand the person talking to them most of the time
- can ask questions and express themselves with little hesitation
- can be understood (verbally and in writing), even if the grammar and spelling used is not always perfect
- knows enough of the language so that his/her understanding of orders is correct most of the time
- must be conversant with the applicable terminology used within those courses
Waivers
Under certain conditions, a cadet may be granted a waiver to attend a course for which he/she does not meet all the prerequisites:
- if there is no other standby cadet in the region who meets all the prerequisites
- the cadet is expected to pass the course
- the cadet meets all generic prerequisites

Waivers cannot be granted to a 12 year-old cadet.
Waivers cannot be granted for the General Training Course. A cadet must meet all the prerequisites

Trade Transfers
Normally, a cadet transferring from one trade to another after having completed a Trade Group 1 or Trade Group 2 course must start over at the Trade Group 1 Level. A cadet may be allowed to proceed to the next Trade Group Level if they meet the prerequisites for the course or are eligible for a waiver.
