Provincial Sea Training Weekend
The Provincial Sea Training Weekend is a two-day competition among the eight sea cadet flotillas in Ontario Division. Competitions at the flotilla level determine which corps will represent the flotilla in each event.
Competition events include: Sheerlegs: Sheerlegs is a two-legged lifting device consisting of  4.9-m. (16-ft.) spars, lines, blocks and tackles. Historically the device was used to transfer dockside cargo between ship and shore.The competition challenges senior cadets' skills in knots and lashings, rigging blocks and tackles, safety, and efficient teamwork. Gyn: The gyn competition is similar to shearlegs but involves a three-legged lifting device instead of two. Junior cadets face the same challenges as their senior counterparts do in "shears" while honing their skills for the more advanced competition in future years. Marksmanship: The top four-member teams from each flotilla compete in air-rifle marksmanship, emphasizing the sporting aspects of Olympic style target shooting. First Aid: St. John Ambulance Standard is the training standard in first aid for all cadets, and this event tests the four-member flotilla teams in first-responder skills and techniques as well as accident scene control. Seamanship Quiz: Four-member teams face a barrage of both theoretical and practical challenges in a fast-paced TV game show format.
Mystery Challenge: This was the first time cadets arrived at the competition to face a challenge not announced in advance. It turned about to be a line-toss event in which each flotilla's team members tossed a light line over a 7.7-m. (25-ft.) distance. Points were awarded based on the accuracy of the toss.
